My Story

I was born on the 11th of November in the year 2000, am a Kuwaiti, and the middle child of two other siblings. I studied at The American International School of Kuwait for 15 years and now study at the American University of Kuwait.

What we do

My hands have never stopped creating. My life is remembered through phases of creative obsessions. Phases in which I become infatuated with some new form of art that I am ready to explore and learn. One of my earliest memories is of my aunt teaching me how to create flowers out of ribbon. This led to a liking for origami. I learned to create roses by folding ribbon, poppies from paper and tissue chrysanthemums. Wherever I was, whatever material was convenient, I surrounded my space with bouquets. I lived in a space of a florist. Time after, a baker, molding tiny baked goods out of polymer clay. Then a cartoonist, illustrating my alter ego named Shelby in moments I never dared to share in words. My life has been a series of learning skills that give me the privilege to service space with beauty while expressing myself. My core desire is to create art that disrupts boundaries, starts discussions, challenges views and plays with innovative, ugly, wild ways to do so.

As a child art became second nature, I would create for me. Now I am learning to create for others. Studying graphic design has changed my relationship with art as it demands formalities while asking for personal identity. I am not certain of how my story will continue as an artist, but I will continue creating while I figure it out.
